Fiske, ’55: 15 Years of Launching Government Service Careers
In 2001, Bob Fiske, ’55, HLLD ’97, created the Robert B. Fiske Jr. Fellowship Program for Government Service to encourage recent Michigan Law graduates to pursue positions as government lawyers. The fellowship pays both college and law school debt for three years plus a stipend; it has supported 49 fellows to date.

Barnhill, ’68: A Model Lawyer, a Grateful Client, a Scholarship Fund
There should be more lawyers like Charles “Chuck” Barnhill, says his longtime friend and former client, Wayne Kennedy. So Kennedy created a scholarship fund at Michigan Law to help train the next generation of lawyers at the place that trained Barnhill.

Michael Harrison, ’66: Supporting Equal Opportunity Through the Program in Race, Law, and History
Michael Harrison, ’66, has a deep-rooted sense of fairness. His grandfather, Glenwood Fuller, LLB 1913, always said women and people of color should have the same rights as white men. “He was ahead of his time,” Harrison says of the former Kent County (Michigan) Circuit Court judge.

John Nickoll, ’60: Darrow Scholarship Endowment
John Nickoll, ’60, and his wife, Patty, of Los Angeles, have made a $1 million gift to the Law School to endow a Darrow Scholarship—which is given to a very select group of Michigan Law’s most accomplished admitted students and can cover as much as full tuition plus a stipend.

Morgan L. Fitch, Jr., ’48: A Legacy of Generosity
Morgan Fitch Jr., ’48, was a loyal donor to the Law School—and he continued his generosity through his estate. The Law School Fund received nearly $150,000 through charitable gift annuities established by Fitch and his wife of 68 years, Helen.

Elaine (Murphy) Rice, ’94: A 20th Reunion Gift
The first gift Elaine (Murphy) Rice, ’94, ever made to the University of Michigan was in 1991 for $19.91, commemorating her upcoming graduation from the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). Now, she and her husband, David Rice, Med ’94, are members of the University’s Presidential Society, reflecting lifetime giving of more than $75,000.

As a 2L, newlywed Stef Tucker, ’63, and his wife, Marilyn Tucker, ABEd ’62, returned most of their wedding gifts for cash in order to make ends meet. Through the Stefan & Marilyn Tucker Scholarship Fund, the Tuckers are now the gift givers.

Jim Zirin, ’64: A Gift for the 50th
Jim Zirin, ’64, sees himself as a storyteller. He knows that Michigan Law has been central in his own story. In gratitude, Zirin made a significant contribution to the Law School Fund to commemorate his 50th reunion.
