Elaine (Murphy) Rice, ’94: A 20th Reunion Gift
The first gift Elaine (Murphy) Rice, ’94, ever made to the University of Michigan was in 1991 for $19.91, commemorating her upcoming graduation from the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). Now, she and her husband, David Rice, Med ’94, are members of the University’s Presidential Society, reflecting lifetime giving of more than $75,000.

James P. “Jim” Kennedy, ’59, believes that lawyers who are leaders solve problems and work well with clients. He has documented a $400,000 bequest to create a scholarship that will help promising leaders consider the U-M Law School.

With Planned Gift, John Reed Scholarship Fund Exceeds $1 Million Goal
When Dudley Godfrey, ’52 and fellow members of the Class of 1952 decided to establish the John Reed Scholarship Fund, they hoped it would grow to $1 million. Thanks in part the generosity of Dudley and his wife, Constance, the value of the fund now exceeds $1.2 million.

May Liang, ’89, sees the value of her Michigan Law degree in black and white. “Now that I’m established in my career, I really appreciate my time at Michigan,” she says. “It was an impressive education that provided incredible opportunities, and I’m proud to give back.”

Michael Levitt, ’83: Invest in What You Know
Michael Levitt, ’83, has been successful in finance largely because he follows a simple adage: Invest in what you know. The advice also guides him as a volunteer for and donor to the University of Michigan. Levitt serves on the University’s Investment Advisory Committee and is the alumni trustee for the Law School’s Cook Trust.

Janet and John Boyles, ’59: A Lifeline Returned
At his lowest point, Michigan Law gave John Boyles, ’59, a lifeline. In gratitude, Boyles and his wife, Janet, do the same for today’s students. Through the John DuVall Boyles Scholarship, students can make their dream of attending Michigan Law a reality and can pursue their career aspirations with less worry about repaying loans.

Bill Goodspeed, ’83: Building Something Enduring with ZEAL
Bill Goodspeed, ’83, built his career on the belief that you can do business and do good. He’s eager to help Michigan Law students understand the same. Goodspeed recently documented a $250,000 bequest to the Law School—$125,000 for clinics that serve indigent populations and $125,000 for the Zell Entrepreneurship and Law (ZEAL) Program.

First Victors for Michigan Scholarship Awarded
In February 2014, an anonymous donor from the Class of 1951 and his wife gave nearly $300,000 to establish the Victors for Michigan Scholarship Fund. The donors wanted to support the Law School’s top funding priority and commemorate the newly launched Victors for Michigan campaign.
